Women and Men of '27

This generation of Spanish male and female poets emerged in May 1927 to commemorate the third centenary of the Golden Age poet Luis de Góngora, organized by the physician and poet José María Romero for the Seville Athenaeum. We wanted to take a look at the most representative figures of this generation of Spain’s cultural rebirth.

Women, the most forgotten… often had to use male pseudonyms to publish their works. In this recital, women take an important place—those women of the 27 Generation known as “Las Sinsombrero,” a term coined to describe Spanish female artists born between 1898 and 1911 who worked in fields such as literature, poetry, painting, music, film, and philosophy. Many of these authors, upon the outbreak of the Civil War, went into exile and continued their work outside Spain.

I think it is a fitting tribute in this recital to these wonderful poets.
