Miguel Hernández is a poet for young and combative spirits: a poet for lovers, for entrepreneurs of work, justice, and solidarity, for idealists fighting to turn yesterday’s utopias into today’s rights. A poet of our times, pleasant and engaging. A poet who enlightens and stirs consciences with the gift and the lash of his word. Whoever has experienced him knows it! Hernández turns ethical words into poetic, incorruptible words.
For those who claim they don’t like poetry, Miguel Hernández is a whole provocation. He remains a necessary poet, magnified when recited and sung in public.
Emilio Gutiérrez Caba and Luis Santana lend their voices to this heartfelt tribute, accompanied at the piano by maestro Víctor Carbajo, with compositions and arrangements tailored for this recital. The selection of texts and images projected during the performance have been carefully chosen by Jesucristo Riquelme, undoubtedly the most relevant biographer of the author’s life and work.
We will get to know every facet and register of Miguel Hernández: a bard among shepherds or gods, a poet struck by an endless love, a minstrel fighting adversity like a people’s wind, and a writer who chooses to write “only out of love” when man lurks or absence becomes present.

EMILIO GUTIÉRREZ CABA - Performer
Actor renowned in film, theater, and television, he comes from one of the most recognized family dynasties within the field of acting. He was born during a theater tour; his entire family has always been dedicated to theater and film, so his childhood and adolescence took place in an environment that shaped his artistic vocation.
He has an artistic career spanning half a century, with works both on stage and in front of the cameras of film and television. His professional acting career began in 1962, when he embarked on his first tour with the company of actress Lili Murati, until 1968 when he formed his own with María José Goyanes.
Since 1963, he has combined his work in theater with notable performances in the world of cinema, where he has already amassed over 80 titles, including "La Comunidad," by Álex de la Iglesia, for which he received the Goya Award for "Best Supporting Actor" in 2001, and repeated the award the following year with Miguel Albadalejo's "El cielo abierto."
Since 1979, he has premiered works by classical authors such as Gil Vicente, Calderón, Shakespeare, Joyce, and Juan Ruiz de Alarcón, and has continued to participate in pieces by contemporary authors like Álvaro del Amo, Jorge Díaz, Fermín Cabal, and Juan García Larrondo. In 1996, he played the character of Don Diego in "El sí de las niñas," by Moratín, and in 1998 premiered a play that toured all of Spain for nearly four seasons: "The Woman in Black."
In 2003, he premiered the play "The Prince and the Showgirl," in which he was accompanied by María Adánez, and in 2008 the play "Death and the Maiden," alongside Luisa Martín.
Emilio Gutiérrez Caba has been characterized as a great advocate for the world of culture and the arts; among other cultural activities, he took part in the 1987 International Poetry Biennial, where he recited, alongside other Spanish artists, a series of poems. Additionally, he has added to his professional curriculum the roles of short story writer and screenwriter, as well as preparing a family biography.

“We are pleased to have brought to Roses an actor of the prestige of Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, because it has been a magnificent recital, a great show that we have been able to enjoy tonight at the Municipal Theatre,” said the Councilor for Culture, Èric Ibáñez.

And that's because I must correct my prejudices, for it wasn't a recital. The verses weren't recited, but performed with an overwhelming passion, an intimate joy and, above all, a fierce expressiveness.

Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, one of the great names of the Spanish stage, lends his voice to the poems of Miguel Hernández this Saturday in Huesca, at the midpoint of the Olympia Classic Classical Theatre Festival (20:30). The show 'Dejadme la esperanza' is a tribute to the Alicante author, in which baritone Luis Santana and pianist Víctor Carbajo also participate.
